Industry: Oil & Gas
After owning land leased to oil companies for over 100 years, the plaintiffs demanded the top 10 feet of soil be removed and replaced, stating this should be no big deal for wealthy oil firms. In designing this exhibit it quickly became clear that the 3.84 million cubic yards they were demanding be removed was a big number and would fill 768,000 dump trucks… but was still just another number against all that income. However, when lined up, this many trucks would reach far out of the state, and the U.S., all the way to Goose Bay, Labrador, just to remove the dirt. And at least that many trucks would need to bring new dirt back to fill the hole. Moreover, local residents would experience 100 trucks a day, 24 hours a day, for 42 years.
